Join us and step into the vibrant history and culture of Kathmandu with immersive walking tour, "Tales of Thamel: From Then to Now." Starting at the heart of Thamel, we'll explore its iconic landmarks, hidden corners, and storied past while experiencing the dynamic energy it embodies today. Journey begins at Ga Hiti, an ancient stone water fountain. Next, we’ll visit Thambahi, the namesake of Thamel, an ancient monastery. We’ll then stop at Gunakar Mahavihar, another historic Buddhist monastery and we end the tour at the Shree Gha Stupa, also known as the "Mini Swayambhunath," a stunning smaller replica of the famed Monkey Temple. On the way to visit these ancient heritages, we will also experience downtown Thamel, with its lively streets, vibrant shops, cafes, and unique cultural blend.

Ga Hiti, in the heart of Thamel, is an ancient stone water spout system with historical and cultural significance. Built during the Lichhavi period, it reflects the traditional Newar water management system, where intricately carved spouts provided clean water to the community. Surrounded by local shops and bustling streets, Ga Hiti stands as a quiet reminder of Kathmandu's rich heritage amidst Thamel’s modern vibrancy. We’ll then stop at Gunakar Mahavihar, another historic Buddhist monastery and continue to the Shree Gha Stupa, also known as the "Mini Swayambhunath," a stunning smaller replica of the famed Monkey Temple. Surrounded by prayer wheels and fluttering flags, this serene site offers a fitting conclusion to our journey. On the way to visit these ancient heritages, we will also experience the modern tourist downtown of Thamel, with its lively streets, vibrant shops, cafes, and unique cultural blend.

Tham Bahi, also known as Bhagwan Bahal, is a historic Buddhist monastery located in the bustling heart of Thamel. This serene site is an active place of worship for local Buddhists and holds deep cultural and religious significance. Interestingly, Tham Bahi is the namesake of Thamel; over time, "Tham Bahi" evolved into "Thamel," giving the area its iconic name. The courtyard of the monastery is adorned with intricately carved stone statues, prayer wheels, and stupas, reflecting traditional Newar craftsmanship. Despite being surrounded by Thamel’s lively streets, the monastery offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can experience the spiritual essence of Kathmandu's heritage.
