• You’re about to go on an awesome adventure to the summit of Maui’s tallest volcano, but there are a few things you should know about the tour before you get started.
• You must make an online reservation and pay $1 if you’re visiting the park for sunrise (between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m.).
• Pack warm clothes -- temperatures can drop below freezing at the summit. (No joke!)
• The tour starts and ends in Kahului. If you are coming from the resort areas of Ka'anapali or Lahaina in West Maui, it's about a 45-minute drive to the start in Kahului.
• There’s nowhere to buy food in the park. Pack a picnic or eat before you go.
• Entrance to Haleakala National Park is $30 per car -- you can pay with credit/debit or digital form of payment. Or purchase your pass ahead of time on Recreation.gov
• The sun rises at about 7 a.m. in the winter and 5:30 a.m. in the summer.
• Expect to spend about 4-6 hours on the tour.
• We recommend starting from Kahului around 4:30 a.m. (depending on the time of year)
• Travelers must have a smartphone compatible with the Shaka Guide app.
• The app must be downloaded and the tour redeemed before arrival.
• Strong Wi-Fi or cellular data is required to download the tour in advance.
