Private One Day to Kbal Spean, Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre
This private full-day tour takes you beyond the core circuit of Angkor to explore the archaeological treasures of the Kulen Hills and outer Angkor area.
Full Description
You are picked up at your hotel and transferred to Kbal Spean. Put on your walking shoes and discover the Cambodian jungle! Hidden from the beaten track lies Kbal Spean with the “River of Thousand Lingas” and an impressive waterfall. To get to the top of Kbal Spean and appreciate the intricately carved stone river bed you have to conquer a fairly steep incline, but fear not – the path is well worn and the biggest obstacles and boulders are overcome by series of well maintained wooden staircases, yet at least medium level of fitness is required for this 3km jungle walk.
You will have a lunch break locally and rest during the hottest part of the day.
On your way back you will visit a small temple of Banteay Srei well known for its beautiful delicate carvings in warm pink sandstone. This late 10th century structure is fairly compact and very different from other Angkorian temples. To round off your day you may also visit Banteay Samre – a larger temple which is often overlooked by tourists and looks gorgeous in late afternoon light. Travelling back to Siem Reap you will pass through picturesque villages and may wish to stop for rural photo opportunities along the way.

Itinerary
The Jungle Hike: A ~1.5 km (~3 km round-trip) shaded trail leading up through the forest. Wooden staircases make the steeper sections manageable. Riverbed Carvings: At the top, admire 11th-century relief carvings carved directly into the riverbed sandstone. Hundreds of lingas (sacred symbols of Shiva) cover the rock floor to sanctify the water flowing down toward Angkor, accompanied by carvings of Lord Vishnu reclining on the serpent Shesha. Waterfall: A natural waterfall where visitors can rest before descending back down the trail.
Pink Sandstone Artistry: Built in 967 AD, this compact temple is famed for its warm pink sandstone and fine wall carvings. Intricate Reliefs: Considered the "Jewel of Khmer Art," featuring detailed lintels and pediments illustrating scenes from Hindu epics (the Ramayana and Mahabharata).
Classical Architecture: A 12th-century flat temple built in the same high classical style as Angkor Wat. Quiet Experience: Because it sits off the main tourist loop, it offers a peaceful atmosphere, long outer gallery walls, and photography opportunities in the late afternoon light.
Village Life: The drive between sites passes through local villages in the Banteay Srei district. Optional Local Stops: Opportunities to pause along the road to observe traditional palm sugar production, local fruit stalls, and rural countryside scenery.
