Itinerary
Pink Sandstone Masterpiece: Built in 967 AD, this compact site is world-famous for its warm pinkish sandstone walls covered in deep, intricate bas-reliefs. Refined Artistry: Referred to as the "Jewel of Khmer Art," featuring detailed carvings of devatas (female deities) and pediments depicting scenes from Hindu epics.
Bakong Temples: The central highlight of the group—a 5-tiered sandstone temple-mountain representing Mount Meru, surrounded by a water-filled moat. Preah Ko Temple & Lolei Temple: Ancient brick towers dedicated to royal ancestors, featuring preserved stucco reliefs and stone guardian statues.
Authentic Stilted Village: A community of wooden homes built on tall stilts (up to 6–10 meters high) to adapt to the seasonal rising and falling waters of Tonle Sap Lake. Seasonal Contrast: During the dry season, the tall wooden posts are fully visible above land; during the wet monsoon season, the streets turn into water canals where residents travel by boat. Flooded Mangrove Forest: In the wet season, visitors can take small wooden canoes through the surrounding flooded forest canopy.
